What Laser Cutting Does
  • Laser cutting uses a focused beam of energy to precisely cut sheet materials into defined shapes, allowing complex profiles and fine details to be produced directly from flat stock. The process is highly controlled and does not require physical contact with the material, which helps maintain accuracy and edge quality.
  • Laser cutting is typically used as a flexible and efficient way to produce parts without dedicated tooling, making it well-suited for prototyping, low-to-medium volume production, and design iterations. At the same time, it can also support scalable production when combined with nesting optimization and batch processing.
  • Compared to stamping or machining, laser cutting offers greater design flexibility, faster setup, and reduced upfront cost, while still maintaining reliable repeatability across production runs.
Specifications
Materials Suitable fo r Laser Cutting Process:

  Characteristics Typical Applications
Carbon Steel Excellent cutting results. Using oxygen assist provides faster speed and better edge quality. High-power machines can cut up to 30-50mm thickness. Automotive manufacturing, sheet metal fabrication, mechanical parts.
Stainless Steel A "strong suit" for laser cutting. Using nitrogen produces oxide-free, burr-free bright edges with no post-processing needed. Food-grade equipment, medical devices, kitchenware, elevator panels.
Aluminum Alloys High reflectivity and thermal conductivity. Requires high-power fiber laser (with anti-reflection protection) for effective cutting. Recommended thickness ≤10mm. Aerospace components, electronic enclosures, heat sinks.
Copper Alloys Also highly reflective, difficult to cut. Must use high-power fiber laser. Thin sheets (≤2mm) can be attempted. Electronic components, connectors, heat dissipation parts.
Titanium Alloys Good cutting quality. Requires inert gas shielding (e.g., argon, nitrogen) to prevent high-temperature oxidation. Good cutting quality. Requires inert gas shielding (e.g., argon, nitrogen) to prevent high-temperature oxidation.
